IoT Security Firm Exein Raises $81 Million

Italian company Exein has raised €70 million (~$81 million) in a Series C funding round led by Balderton.

Italian IoT-embedded cybersecurity firm Exein on Wednesday announced raising €70 million (approximately $81 million) in a Series C funding round that brings the total raised by the company to over $106 million.

The new investment round was led by Balderton, with additional support from Supernova, Lakestar, and previous investors 33N, United Ventures, and Partech.

Founded in 2018 and based in Rome, Italy, Exein provides AI-enabled, real-time threat detection capabilities embedded into IoT devices used across critical infrastructure, automotive, energy, healthcare, robotics, and semiconductor industries.

Instead of relying on network defenses, the cybersecurity firm focuses on securing individual devices, enabling manufacturers to embed modern security tools into their products.

This approach, the company says, not only keeps connected devices protected from backdoors to prevent attacks that could lead to data breaches, but also ensures that organizations remain compliant with stringent global cybersecurity regulations.

Additionally, Exein is working on runtime security solutions for AI infrastructure and LLMs, to address a growing need for securing these tools directly on devices.

The fresh investment will help the company expand globally across the US and Asia and strengthen its position on the European market, and will fuel its pursuit for strategic M&A opportunities.

“Embedded security at the device level is fundamental, and we are proud to support manufacturers in providing the highest levels of security, offering them confidence in knowing they are compliant with the latest security legislation,” Exein founder and CEO Gianni Cuozzo said.
