Intel announced on Tuesday that it has hired Christopher Young as the company’s newest senior vice president and general manager of Intel Security.

Young will report to Intel President Renée James and lead Intel’s security business, including McAfee and Intel’s other security assets, which generate revenue topping $3 billion.

Young joins Intel from Cisco Systems, where he was senior vice president of the global Security and Government Group, responsible for strategy, engineering and product development for the company’s security product business.

Prior to Cisco, Young served as senior vice president and general manager at VMware, where he led engineering, product development and marketing for desktop virtualization, consumer and end user offerings. He also served as senior vice president of products for RSA. Young also co-founded and led Cyveillance Inc. and served as president and chief operating officer.

Intel acquired McAfee in 2010 for $7.68 billion with the aim of improving embedded security and baking more security into hardware.

Earlier this year Intel CEO Brian Krzanich announced that the McAfee brand name will be phased out as the security division of the company is branded Intel Security.

Young currently sits on the board of directors of Boston-based Rapid7 and has served on the Princeton University board of trustees. He holds a bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Princeton University and an MBA degree with distinction from the Harvard Business School.
