Switzerland-based web and application security company ImmuniWeb on Tuesday announced the launch of a free online tool designed to help organizations identify unprotected cloud storage.
ImmuniWeb, formerly known as High-Tech Bridge, says the new tool can be used by IT and cybersecurity professionals to easily and quickly identify unprotected cloud storage instances in AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, IBM Cloud, Oracle Cloud, DigitalOcean, Rackspace and a dozen other public cloud services.
Identifying and securing unprotected cloud storage instances is important for preventing data leaks. Many recent incidents that resulted in the exposure of millions of records involved unprotected cloud storage.
In addition to finding unprotected cloud storage, the new cloud security test can detect IAM misconfigurations and shadow cloud accounts.
Users only have to enter the URL of their website to perform a test — cloud credentials are not required. A test can take up to 15 minutes to complete, but the company says it’s usually quicker. Test results include information on the region or country where the data is stored, for compliance purposes.
ImmuniWeb says the tool leverages OSINT, big data and smart prediction technology. To prevent abuse, users need to register a free account and validate it in order to collect the URLs of exposed cloud buckets.
A free API provided for the Cloud Security Test tool allows organizations to conduct up to 4 free tests per day. A free cloud security monitoring service is currently in beta.
ImmuniWeb Community Edition offers several free tools, including for testing mobile app security, website security, dark web exposure, and SSL security. The company claims its free tools have already been used to perform nearly 200 million security tests to date.
