Hewlett Packard Enterprise announced it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire cloud data management and protection provider Zerto. The price tag: $374 million in cash.

With this acquisition, HPE seeks to expand its GreenLake cloud data services and move HPE Storage closer to becoming a cloud-native, software-defined data services business, the company says.

Founded in 2009, with headquarters in Herzliya, Israel, and Boston, Zerto provides journal-based continuous data protection (CDP) that enables organizations to manage and protect cloud data from a single console. The company delivers disaster recovery, ransomware protection, and data mobility to 350 Managed Service Providers and 9,000 customers.

HPE plans to integrate Zerto’s roughly 500 employees into its R&D talent pool.

In addition to helping customers recover in minutes from cyberattacks and unplanned downtime, Zerto also allows them to replicate and migrate data between VMware vSphere and Microsoft Hyper-V, and to Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

“With the explosive growth of data at the edge and across hybrid environments, organizations today face significant complexity in managing and protecting their data. Zerto’s market-leading cloud data management and protection software expands HPE GreenLake cloud data services, allowing customers to protect their data and rapidly act on insights, from edge to cloud,” Antonio Neri, President and CEO, HPE, said.
