Cybersecurity company Fortinet has acquired Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) cloud provider OPAQ Networks.

Founded in 2013 and based in Herndon, Virginia, OPAQ offers enterprise-grade security-as-a-service (SaaS) from the cloud. The startup’s Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) cloud solution aims to protect networks spanning across data centers, branch offices, and Internet of Things (IoT) devices.

Fortinet, which is based in Sunnyvale, Calif., seeks to protect data across digital infrastructures with its Security Fabric platform, which covers network, application, cloud, and edge. The company will integrate OPAQ’s ZTNA solution into Security Fabric, to enhance its SASE offering.

With this integration, the platform will be providing next-gen firewall and SD-WAN capabilities, sandboxing capabilities, browser isolation, web security, endpoint and multi-cloud workload protection, identity access management, cloud application security broker (CASB), and web application firewall.

The acquisition will help Fortinet better position itself to meet the security requirements of today’s growing remote workforce, where more and more applications, data, devices, services, and users need to be kept secure outside of a traditional enterprise environment.

The integration of Fortinet’s broad Security Fabric with OPAQ’s cloud platform, Fortinet says, will help provide scalability, performance, true Zero Trust security, fully integrated networking and security, and a partner-friendly ZTNA offering.

The financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
