Salem, who was previously CEO and President of Symantec before being pushed out by the company’s board of directors in July 2012, will identify and lead investments in companies in infrastructure software and services.

According to BCV, the firm is looking to expand on its previous success in infrastructure software investing, which includes investments in AppAssure, dynaTrace, SolarWinds, Rapid7, SevOne, TravelClick and VMTurbo.

“Enrique is an experienced leader, investor and operating executive in the software industry and we are thrilled to have him join Bain Capital Ventures,” said Mike Krupka, co-managing partner of BCV. “We have known Enrique for many years, and he is a natural complement to our team and what we are doing within infrastructure software investing,” added Ben Nye, co-managing partner of BCV.

“I’m a technologist at heart, and I am excited to have the Bain Capital Ventures platform behind me as we seek to partner with talented entrepreneurs to develop tomorrow’s transformative companies,” said Salem. “This is an exciting time in the software industry given the massive disruption taking place across the data center and networking segments. I am thrilled to join an experienced team to invest in and support the truly innovative companies being formed today.”

In addition to his management career, Salem has been an active personal investor in software companies in Silicon Valley, and currently holds seats on the Board of Directors of Atlassian, Clari, Cloudgenix, DocuSign, FireEye and ForeScout.
