Eye Care Services Firm Faces Lawsuit Over Data Breach Impacting 2.3 Million

Eye care practice management firm American Vision Partners faces lawsuit over data breach impacting 2.3 million patients.

Eye care practice management firm American Vision Partners faces lawsuit over data breach impacting 2.3 million patients.

Eye care practice management firm American Vision Partners faces a class action lawsuit over a recently disclosed data breach impacting more than two million of its customers’ patients.

Medical Management Resource Group, which does business as American Vision Partners, revealed in early February that it had detected unauthorized access to its network on November 14, 2023.

American Vision Partners provides administrative services to 120 ophthalmology practices in Arizona, Texas, New Mexico and Nevada.

The company’s investigation revealed on December 6 that hackers had obtained personal information belonging to patients of American Vision Partners customers, including names, contact information, dates of birth, medical information and, in some cases, Social Security numbers and insurance data.

MMRG told the Department of Health and Human Services earlier this month that the incident impacted roughly 2.35 million individuals.

The company has been notifying affected individuals and offering them free credit monitoring and identity protection services.

However, impacted individuals may get more than just free credit monitoring services as Console & Associates, a law firm specializing in data breach-related class action lawsuits, is urging affected patients to get in touch as it may file a lawsuit against MMRG.
