Entrust IdentityGuard 9.3 Released – Adds Out-of-Band Authentication

Identity-based security provider Entrust has announced the immediate availability of out-of-band authentication via its new mobile application, IdentityGuard Mobile. The application is now a component of the company’s Entrust IdentityGuard 9.3 layered security system for mobile devices.

According to Entrust, out-of-band transaction verification via a mobile application can prove effective in helping defeat man-in-the-browser attacks such as the Zeus Trojan. The newly-available application generates standards-based, one-time passcodes (OTP) based on the values of the transaction itself. It delivers transaction notifications directly to the phone without the use of SMS, which can reduce the overall cost of deployment for organizations.

IdentityGuard 9.3 leverages users’ existing smartphones, with no physical hardware required. It enables strong authentication as well as detailed transaction review and confirmation on a variety of handheld devices, including the Apple iPhone, RIM BlackBerry, Microsoft Windows Mobile and Symbian (Java).
