Dell announced today that it has completed its acquisition of SecureWorks, a deal which was announced just over a month ago.

SecureWorks, a provider of managed security services, processes more than 13 billion security events and sees more than 30,000 malware specimens each day. Prior to the acquisition, the company claimed more than 1,500 banks and credit unions as managed security services clients and is protecting trillions of dollars in financial assets.

The acquisition expands Dell’s global IT-as-a-Service offerings and information security expertise, of which the security element has been relatively weak compared to rivals HP and IBM.

Forrester Research analyst Khalid Kark, in a blog post, said the acquisition will benefit Dell customers by allowing them to obtain security services from a trusted partner, while SecureWorks clients will have access to the financial scale and resources of a Fortune-50 player.

“SecureWorks will be the foundational platform for Dell’s security solutions. Thousands of customers already entrust SecureWorks with mission-critical data resources. Dell looks forward to bringing these solutions to customers around the world,” said Steve Schuckenbrock President, Dell Services.

Dell also hired Tom Patterson as Executive Director for its Global Security Consulting Group which the company announced in January. Patterson is responsible for leading Dell’s security services consulting teams, including mobile security, data loss prevention, cyber intelligence, supply chain security, application security, identity and access management, and cloud security.
