Cybercrime Fighters to Gather in Prague, April 25-27

Containing the Global Cybercrime Threat is The Focus of The CeCOS VI Summit Taking Place in Prague, Czech Republic Later This Month

Later this month, global leaders from various industries, government, law enforcement, communications sectors, and research centers will gather in in Prague, Czech Republic for the Counter eCrime Operations Summit (CeCOS VI).

In its sixth year, event organizers say the summit, which takes place April 25-27, will focus on “harmonizing operational issues, cybercrime data exchange, and industrial policies to strengthen and unify global anti-cybercrime efforts.”

Organized by the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), an industry association focused on combating Phishing and cybercrime, CeCOS VI Prague will review the development of response systems and resources available to counter-cybercrime managers and forensic professionals from around the world.

Reasonably priced at $575, which includes lunches for two days and dinner on Thursday, CeCOS is an open conference. According to the APWG, if you are an information security professional, law enforcement officer, counter-ecrime technology developer, CISO/Security manager, intelligence officer, policy analyst, legislator, legislative researcher, industrial standards author, corporate security manager, private investigator or academic/industrial researcher in ecrime, attending the summit would be worthwhile.

Specific goals of the conference, the APWG says, are to identify common forensic needs, in terms of the data, tools, and communications protocols needed to “harmonize cybercrime response” across borders and between private sector responders and policy makers and law enforcement.

Key presentations are set to include:

• Toward a Universal eCrime Taxonomy for Industry and Law Enforcement – Iain Swaine, Ensequrity

• Budapest Convention on Cybercrime: Transborder Law Enforcement Access to Data – Alexander Seger, Director of the Data Protection and Cybercrime Division of the Council of Europe.

• The Phisher’s Tricks: A Case Study – Michael Molsner, 
Kaspersky Lab

• Adventures in Cybercrime Event Data Sharing – Pat Cain, AWPG Resident Research Fellow.

• How a Financial Institution Utilizes Cyber Intelligence to Reduce Risk – Kevin Thomsen, O&T Risk Management at Citi.

Additional presentations about industrial policy at CeCOS VI will investigate policies that complicate the work of exploited brand holders and responders including the domain name system (DNS) registration process that is abused by phishers as part of their phishing campaigns.
