Check Point Targets Branch Offices With Latest NGFW Offering

Internet security firm Check Point Software Technologies launched a new low-cost series of security appliances designed to provide enterprise-class security in a small desktop form factor ideal for branch and remote offices.

Internet security firm Check Point Software Technologies launched a new low-cost series of security appliances designed to provide enterprise-class security in a small desktop form factor ideal for branch and remote offices.

Starting at $599, the Check Point 1100 series comes in three models: 1120, 1140 and 1180. Each model can be setup to support a variety of Internet access options including 3G, ADSL connectivity and Ethernet, Check Point said.

Performance-wise, Check Point claims the 1180 supports 1.5 Gbps of max firewall throughput, 220 Mbps of max VPN throughput and a 31 SecurityPower unit (SPU) rating. The lower end 1120 model supports 0.75 Gbps of max firewall throughput and up to 140 Mbps of VPN throughput.

The new appliances leverage Check Point’s Software Blade Architecture that lets organizations customize their security platform to meet current and future requirements, the first for Check Point for an the entry-level product.

Check Point’s Blade Architecture allows customers to select and deploy a combination of protections, including: Firewall, VPN,IPS, Application Control, Mobile Access, Data Loss Prevention, Anti-Bot, Identity Awareness, URL Filtering, Anti-spam and Antivirus.

While the main offices and data centers are often carefully protected, it is at the branch offices where security gaps often exist, the company reminded.

“Branch offices can be considered enterprises’ weakest link. Security solutions for remote sites cannot be neglected, regardless of the site’s size or purpose,” said Dorit Dor, vice president of products at Check Point. 

The Check Point 1100 Appliances come pre-loaded with Check Point’s technologies for small offices of one to 100 employees. Key features of the Check Point 1100 Appliances include:

• Check Point’s SmartCenter security management solutions ensure scalable deployments, consistent organization-wide security policies and easy management of hundreds of devices.

• Management allows for quick setup and configuration even by non-IT professionals.

• Compact desktop form-factor, with ten 1-gigabit Ethernet ports.

• Flexible Internet options to meet the varying needs of individual branch offices.
