BastionZero, a provider of remote access to backend infrastructure, has raised $6 million in seed investment.

The funding round was led by Dell Technologies Capital, with added investments from participation from Akamai and DG Lab Fund (Japan).

Founded in 2019, the Boston-based company offers remote access to databases, servers, and other infrastructure used by backend and cloud engineering teams for the development and hosting of software services.

The cloud service seeks to secure remote access through cryptographic techniques that employ multiple roots of trust. Thus, the customer’s infrastructure remains secure even if the cloud service is compromised.

BastionZero says its solution automatically discovers the customer’s targets, integrates with the SSO provider, and monitors and logs user remote access.

The company plans to use the new investment to build out new features and automate the rollout across cloud and other types of infrastructure.

“What we’ve built at BastionZero is a cloud service that simplifies zero-trust access to infrastructure, using a modern security architecture approach based on multiple roots of trust. We believe that we’re part of a new security product category that will displace VPNs, bastion hosts, and privilege access management (PAM) tools,” BastionZero CEO Sharon Goldberg said.
