Looking to enhance its Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) solutions portfolio, Aruba Networks today announced that it would acquire Avenda Systems, a provider of network security solutions that connect users and devices to corporate networks.

The acquisition of privately-held Avenda Systems will enhance Aruba’s Mobile Virtual Enterprise (MOVE) architecture, the company’s solution designed to identify the user, as well as his or her device type, application, and location and apply access policies based on that information.

“This acquisition is fundamentally about arming our customers with a simple, cost-effective and device-agnostic approach to connecting and securing BYOD users,” said Hitesh Sheth, chief operating officer at Aruba.

Avenda’s solutions help companies apply security and access policies across networks, and provide device posture and visibility into device profiles.

Through an on premise or cloud-based subscription service, Avenda also enables self-service provisioning of 802.1x and security credentials to a broad range of devices running iOS, Android, MacOS, or Windows.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close in the second quarter of Aruba’s fiscal year 2012, ending January 31, 2012, subject to standard closing conditions.

Avenda Systems was founded in 2006 by Santhosh Cheeniyil (CTO) and Krishna Prabhakar (CEO), both former Cisco executives. The company has received funding from OVP Venture Partners as well as other private investors, The United States Department of Defense (DoD), including U.S. Air Force and Missile Defense Agency, and Department of Homeland Security.
