Network security provider Arbor Networks has teamed with Alcatel-Lucent to establish a new proof-of-concept laboratory in Singapore for communications service providers to conduct testing of technologies to fight distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks.

The move builds upon a partnership between the two companies. Earlier this year, Arbor Networks and Alcatel-Lucent announced the integration of Arbor’s Threat Management System (TMS) DDoS mitigation software into the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router (SR) family to help communications service providers counter DDoS attacks by improving detection.

According to the companies, the POC Laboratory gives customers the ability to see live demonstrations of this integrated technology, as well as to test various DDoS attacks and techniques so that customers can conduct trials to better understand the technologies and DDoS-prevention best practices.

“DDoS attacks are a growing problem for service providers and enterprises alike,” said Kent Wong, vice president of IP Sales Support Center, Asia Pacific, with Alcatel-Lucent, in a statement. “Our partnership with Arbor Networks opens up a number of deployment scenarios and network configuration options for our customers. Given the interest we have seen in this integrated solution, we see the test lab as an important tool to help customers understand what this integration means and how they can benefit from it in practice.”

“This is a first-of-its-kind partnership for Arbor Networks and we are very pleased with the results so far,” said Attley Ng, vice president and general manager for Asia Pacific for Arbor Networks, in a statement. “Arbor has deep relationships with the service provider community and we understand the complex challenges they face, from securing their own networks, to delivering security services to protect their customer networks. Bringing DDoS mitigation to the edge of the network gives providers greater flexibility to reduce transit costs and backhaul costs, as well as the ability to launch revenue-generating managed security services for enterprise customers.”
