AirWatch, a provider of mobile security and mobile device management solutions, has acquired the Mobility Services Platform (MSP) business from Motorola Solutions.

The acquisition is a big move for the firm that recently announced that it had taken a $25 million investment from VC firm Accel Partners to expand its business.

AirWatch says it will “evolve the MSP product line” and plans to incorporate MSP’s features into its own AirWatch Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platform.

More specifically, AirWatch plans to take advantage of MSP’s technology which helps customers provision, stage and manage their enterprise mobile systems.

“The MSP product line will enable AirWatch to combine MSP’s depth and richness of features and functionality with AirWatch’s ease of use across multiple device and OS types,” AirWatch explained in a statement on Wednesday.

“With MSP, AirWatch gets a fully featured product line for enterprise mobile computers and a talented team with tremendous domain expertise,” says Girish Rishi, senior vice president of enterprise solutions, Motorola Solutions. “AirWatch will provide size, scalability and significant investment in this space, which will benefit our MSP customers. Motorola Solutions and AirWatch will collaborate to ensure that the product support transition is seamless.”

The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

AirWatch claims more than 7,000 customers around the world, including Delta, Lowe’s, United Airlines, Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), Skanska, PepsiCo, Henry Ford Health System, Mount Sinai Medical Center, Best Buy and Abbott Laboratories.
