Yammer, the high flying software company that lets companies create their own private Twitter-like networks, this week announced that it has hired Josha Bronson as director of security

Based in the company’s headquarters in San Francisco, Bronson will be responsible for the overall security testing, compliance and governance issues.

Bronson comes to Yammer from hi5 Networks where he served as security manager and IT specialist and was responsible for the internal and external security of the company’s infrastructure, conducting penetration testing and creating the roadmap for strategic security improvements. He was also charged with responding to security threats and incidents and working with law enforcement and government officials.

“I am looking forward to working closely with Yammer’s product development team to improve security processes and develop tools and techniques for data analysis that exceed the company’s already exceptional track-record,” said Bronson.

Prior to his role at hi5, Bronson served as a senior security consultant at iSec Partners. He has also held IT security positions at companies including McAfee, nCircle, and CNET Networks, Inc.

Yammer was started by former PayPal COO David Sacks and is used by more than 100,000 companies around the world to communicate, share ideas, post news, ask questions, and share links. Yammer helps social networks be more private and secure by limiting access to those with a valid company email address.

A basic offering of Yammer is available for free, with more feature rich controls and administration options available for paying customers.
