Private equity giant Symphony Technology Group (STG) on Wednesday announced the launch of Trellix, an extended detection and response (XDR) solutions provider created following the merger of McAfee Enterprise and FireEye.

McAfee’s enterprise business was sold to a consortium led by STG in a $4 billion deal announced in March 2021. A few months later, STG announced the acquisition of FireEye Products — after it split from Mandiant — for $1.2 billion.

In October, the private equity firm said McAfee Enterprise and FireEye Products would merge into a single entity with more than 40,000 customers, 5,000 employees, and nearly $2 billion in annual revenue.

STG has now announced that the result of the merger is a new business named Trellix, which specializes in XDR solutions designed to “accelerate the effectiveness of security operations.”

“The new name evokes the structure of a trellis, a strong and safe framework used to support structured growth of climbing plants and trees,” the company said in a press release. “Trellix will deliver its brand promise to build resilient and confident organizations through living security—security technology that learns and adapts to protect operations from the most advanced threat actors.”

The Trellix platform includes endpoint, cloud, collaboration, data and user, application, and infrastructure security capabilities.

STG also said it plans to launch — later this quarter — the McAfee Enterprise Secure Service Edge (SSE) portfolio as a separate business, which will include cloud access security broker (CASB), secure web gateway (SWG) and zero trust network access (ZTNA).
