Symantec announced a number of additions to its product portfolio of mobile security solutions Wednesday targeting Google Android, Apple iOS and other mobile operating systems.
For Android users, the company released Symantec Mobile Security for Android, which monitors and analyzes Android applications from app stores around the world, and Symantec PGP Viewer for Android, which offers the ability to read encrypted emails on Android devices. Symantec also integrated all its Mobile Management products with NitroDesk TouchDown, which the company called the “leading enterprise email client for Android.”
“As part of the next stage of their BYOD initiatives, companies worldwide are telling us that they’re looking to increase their adoption of Android devices,” said Anil Chakravarthy, senior vice president of the Enterprise Security Group at Symantec, in a statement. “We are bringing together a comprehensive set of security and management solutions for this leading platform.”
The company also targeted other mobile platforms as well however. Symantec Mobile Management has been enhanced to provide native agent-based management capabilities for Windows Phone 7 devices, complementing existing support for Android and iOS. In addition, the Nukona App Center now features the ability to secure apps and data on iOS devices with FIPS 140-2 certified encryption.
Rounding out the series of announcements is Symantec Mobile Management for Configuration Manager, which is a rebranding of the Athena product Symantec brought under its wing when it purchased Odyssey Software earlier this year.
“With the recent additions to our portfolio of mobile device management and application/data management products, Symantec is providing a complete platform to enable CIOs to achieve their mobile vision,” Chakravarthy said.
