StrikeForce Technologies, a provider of our-of-band authentication and security solutions, will combine voice verification software with its out-of-band authentication platform to create “three-factor” verification for customers increasingly worried about being compromised.

StrikeForce partnered with TradeHarbor, a provider of voice verification software, to create the new voice verification and biometric authentication platform, the company said Tuesday. The combination provides enterprises with a Web service that offers three-factor authentication across all business units and applications. Each verification process produces a legally-binding voice signature delivered out-of-band, StrikeForce said.

Three-factor authentication refers to the fact that security is based on three factors: who you are, what you have, and what you know. In this case, voice delivers the “who you are” component. The voice signature has an audit trail to show exactly when the login interaction happened.

“Combining voice verification and out-of-band authentication together to help prevent online fraud was a natural integration waiting to happen,” Mark L. Kay, CEO of StrikeForce, said in a statement.

With the proliferation of mobile devices and applications, enterprises need multi-factor authentication to provide security regardless of the device being used to log in, George Waller, executive vice president of StrikeForce, told SecurityWeek. The new Web service provides a consistent user experience across all applications to boost convenience and flexibility without forcing the enterprise to invest in expensive hardware.

TradeHarbor’s biometric voice authentication service is a real-time decision support tool, and provide enterprises with the ability to create legally-binding document signatures over the telephone and online.

There are many products on the market looking at biometrics, but just biometrics is not enough, Waller said. Authentication, or verifying the biometric information with a user, is necessary for high security, said Waller.

The out-of-band authentication technology that is being used in the TradeHarbor partnership is the same one used by StrikeForce in its own ProtectID platform. ProtectID supports eight different types of out-of-band verification, including phone, voice, instant messaging, hard tokens, and soft tokens displayed on desktops and mobile devices. Businesses can use ProtectID to enable employees to use their mobile devices to log into corporate VPNs, customer contact databases and cloud applications.

StrikeForce combined GuardedID and ProtectID into a package specifically for small and mid-sized businesses just last month. GuardedID anti-keylogging software encrypts each keystroke in real-time so tht malicious keyloggers are unable to record what users are typing into the computer.
