Network security vendor SonicWALL, Inc., this week released an app for users of the company’s SSL VPN and Next-Generation Firewalls that enables secure remote access to network resources from Apple devices, including iPads and iPhones.

The App, SonicWALL Mobile Connect, provides iOS device users with secure access to network resources, including shared folders, client-server applications, intranet sites, email and more.

The SonicWALL Mobile Connect App provides users “VPN on Demand” and encrypts traffic whenever users attempt to access protected internal resources. Further capabilities are added when Mobile Connect users communicate through a SonicWALL firewall, the companys said.

When using the Mobile Connect App, users can gain the same security protections that are in place when inside company walls, including content filtering, anti-virus, and intrusion prevention, while traveling and accessing networks from public hotspots.

Additionally, network administrators can implement bandwidth throttling, helping to make sure business critical applications get priority, while throttling down other bandwidth that may not be so important.

“iPads and iPhones have become the overwhelming choice for employees who demand anytime anywhere productivity,” said Patrick Sweeney, vice president of product management and corporate marketing at SonicWALL. “Our Mobile Connect App lets companies extend their security policy to meet the stringent needs of enterprise, government and education institutions, while employees travel outside of the protected perimeter. This will help enable greater workforce productivity.”

Mobile Connect runs on iOS 4.2 and higher and is available for free from the App Store.
