SecureWorks Hires Former Army Colonel as VP of Counter Threat Unit

Managed information security services provider, SecureWorks, Inc., announced today the hire of Colonel Barry R. Hensley, former Director of the Army’s Global Network Operations and Security Center. Hensley will be joining as Vice President of SecureWorks’ Counter Threat Unit.

Managed information security services provider, SecureWorks, Inc., announced today the hire of Colonel Barry R. Hensley, former Director of the Army’s Global Network Operations and Security Center. Hensley will be joining as Vice President of SecureWorks’ Counter Threat Unit.

The SecureWorks CTU is comprised of a team of security experts who identify and analyze emerging cyber threats, while developing countermeasures to support SecureWorks’ clients. The CTU leverages visibility across a broad client base and in-depth knowledge of malware and attackers to continuously update SecureWorks’ systems. The CTU also operates a Threat Intelligence Service, offering warning and intelligence tailored to each client’s environment.

“COL Hensley has had a distinguished military career, and we are extremely honored to have someone with his reputation and passion for security joining our team,” said Jon Ramsey, CTO of SecureWorks. “His deep understanding of the cyber security issues facing the nation’s defense, civilian and commercial communities will make COL Hensley an invaluable addition to our staff.”

While at the Army’s Global Network Operations and Security Center, Hensley was responsible for directing the operations and defense of the Army’s portion of the Global Information Grid (GIG) consisting of over 1.2 million users.

“I am very excited about joining SecureWorks especially since I will be working with many of the industry’s most respected security researchers,” said Hensley.

Hensley started his career in the U.S. Army in 1986 through the Army ROTC program. He served in a variety of leadership positions within the communications and information career field throughout a 24-year Army career to include Operation Desert SHIELD in Saudi Arabia, Operation Restore Hope in Somalia and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

COL Hensley holds a BBA in Information Systems, M.S. in Telecommunication and is a graduate of the National War College.
