SAP’s February 2023 Security Updates Patch High-Severity Vulnerabilities

SAP has released 21 notes on February 2023 Security Patch Day, including three notes addressing high-severity vulnerabilities in SAP Start Service and BusinessObjects.

SAP has released 21 notes on February 2023 Security Patch Day, including three notes addressing high-severity vulnerabilities in SAP Start Service and BusinessObjects.

Enterprise software maker SAP this week announced the release of 26 notes on its February 2023 Security Patch Day, including 21 new and five updated notes.

The most severe of these notes delivers updates to the Chromium browser in the SAP Business Client, to resolve a total of 54 vulnerabilities, including 22 high-severity issues.

This month, SAP released five new and updated high-priority notes that resolve flaws in SAP Start Service, BASIS, BusinessObjects, and Business Planning and Consolidation.

The most severe of the new notes resolves a privilege escalation issue in Start Service (CVE-2023-24523, CVSS score of 8.8), which could impact availability, confidentiality, and integrity.

“An authenticated non-admin user with local access to a server port assigned to the SAP Host Agent Service can submit a specially crafted web service request with an arbitrary operating system command,” enterprise software security firm Onapsis explains.

Two other new high-priority notes patch BusinessObjects flaws that require authentication: an information disclosure vulnerability (CVE-2023-0020) and an unrestricted file upload bug (CVE-2023-24530).

The second issue could allow “an authenticated admin user to upload malicious code that can be executed by the application over the network”, Onapsis says.

In an update to a previously released high-priority note that resolves a code injection vulnerability in BASIS, SAP now mentions that customers on databases other than HANA are also impacted.

Minor changes were made to a note addressing a high-severity privilege escalation flaw in Business Planning and Consolidation.

The remaining 21 notes deal with medium-severity vulnerabilities in SAP products such as Solution Manager, GRC Process Control, Fiori, HANA, NetWeaver, Business Planning and Consolidation, BusinessObjects, and CRM WebClient UI.

SAP customers are advised to apply the available patches as soon as possible. Threat actors often exploit enterprise software vulnerabilities for which fixes already exist.
