German software maker SAP announced on Tuesday that more than 30 new and updated security notes were released on its April 2022 Security Patch Day, including notes that deal with the Spring4Shell vulnerability.

Tracked as CVE-2022-22965, the vulnerability dubbed Spring4Shell impacts Spring, the most popular Java application development framework in the world, and could lead to the execution of code remotely. Security researchers have already observed attempts to exploit the flaw in the wild.

SAP published three Spring4Shell-related security notes, all rated “Hot News” – the highest rating in the company’s books –, two of which address CVE-2022-22965 in HANA Extended Application Service and Customer Checkout.

The third note, however, is a central note for Spring4Shell, which suggests that SAP expects the impact from this vulnerability to be wider.

SAP published four other Hot News notes this month, all of them being updated notes. One of these is an update to the Chromium-based browser in Business Client, while another deals with a request smuggling and request concatenation issue in NetWeaver, Content Server, and Web Dispatcher.

The remaining two are, in fact, updates to the same March 2021 Patch Day security note, and address a code injection vulnerability in Manufacturing Integration and Intelligence (CVE-2021-21480).

The bug, application security firm Onapsis explains, is related to a feature that allows users to employ the Self Service Composition Environment (SSCE) to save customized dashboards as JSPs on a server.

According to Onapsis, an attacker can inject code into the JSP before it is forwarded to the server, which results in code being executed on the server as soon as the JSP is opened. This could allow an attacker to read, modify, or delete files on the server.

“Attackers authenticated as a developer can use the application to upload and execute a file directly which will permit them to execute operating systems commands completely compromising the server hosting the application,” Onapsis explains.

This month, SAP also published seven security notes with a severity rating of “High Priority,” including four new and three updated notes.

The new High Priority notes address a potential information leakage bug in Business Intelligence Platform, an information disclosure issue in Business Intelligence Update, a denial of service (DoS) flaw in Netweaver, and a privilege escalation vulnerability in the Apache Tomcat server component of SAP Commerce.
