German software maker SAP this week announced the release of eight new and five updated security notes as part of its September 2022 Security Patch Day.
The most important of the newly released security notes deals with a high-severity vulnerability in Business One that could lead to escalation of privileges.
Tracked as CVE-2022-35292 (CVSS score of 7.8), the issue is described as an unquoted service path vulnerability.
Because of this issue, if an execution path is provided without quotes, an attacker with write privileges to sub-directories in the path could place malicious executable files in those directories, which will be executed instead of the intended executable.
“An unquoted service path vulnerability can be exploited to execute an arbitrary binary file when the vulnerable service starts, which could allow it to escalate privileges to SYSTEM,” enterprise application security firm Onapsis explains.
SAP also addressed a high-severity vulnerability in BusinessObjects (CVE-2022-39014, CVSS score of 7.7), which could provide an attacker with access to unencrypted sensitive information.
Impacting SAP GRC, the third high-severity flaw that SAP resolved this month could be exploited by an authenticated attacker to access a Firefighter session even after it has been closed in Firefighter Logon Pad. The issue is tracked as CVE-2022-39801 (CVSS score of 7.1).
All of the five remaining new security notes released on SAP’s September 2022 Security Patch Day are rated ‘medium severity’. They impact BusinessObjects, NetWeaver Enterprise Portal, NetWeaver AS ABAP, and NetWeaver Application Server ABAP.
The most important of the five updated security notes is a hot-news note dealing with the Chromium-based browser in SAP Business Client, which is periodically updated.
This month, SAP also updated high-priority notes dealing with vulnerabilities in Knowledge Warehouse, SuccessFactors, and BusinessObjects.
