Qualys, a provider of on demand IT security risk and compliance management solutions, today announced that it is offering two-factor authentication to its QualysGuard customers worldwide.

Two-factor authentication provides an additional layer of protection by requiring something you know, such as a username and password, with a six-digit security code generated from something you have, such as a card, token, or mobile phone.

The QualysGuard on demand IT security and compliance solution is delivered using a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) model, where users can access and manage their accounts from any web browser, anywhere in the world. Adding two-factor authentication will give Qualys customers an additional layer of authentication.

Qualys’ new two-factor authentication service is powered by Symantec’s VeriSign Identity Protection (VIP) Authentication Service.

QualysGuard administrators can require the VIP Authentication Service for all accounts, or individuals can opt-in as desired. VIP strong authentication supports a variety of credentials (from freely available mobile phone and PC-based software credentials to hardware tokens from industry leading vendors). The VIP Authentication Service also enables programmatic access to the QualysGuard API so customers can utilize integrated partner solutions for additional capabilities.

The two-factor authentication service is now available for QualysGuard customers at no additional charge.
