Qualys, a provider of cloud-based security and compliance solutions, has released a new version of its free service designed to help users keep their browsers and plug-ins up-to-date to protect against dangerous online content and malware.

The latest version of Qualys BrowserCheck, now includes expanded support for Mac OS browsers and enables users to automatically run daily scans to identify which browsers and plug-ins are installed on each computer, which security packages (such as antivirus, firewalls and disk encryption) are enabled, and whether any security updates are missing or needed, with links to the updates.

Qualys said BrowserCheck now offers deep scanning on Apple MacOS X 10.6.8 and later, supports the major browsers (Safari, Chrome and Firefox), and checks for most common plug-ins.

In addition to the free version of Qualys BrowserCheck, the company also offers a Business Edition that extends BrowserCheck’s capabilities to provide IT administrators organizational tracking and reporting of browser security within their entire organizations.

With the new version of BrowserCheck Business Edition, IT Administrators can embed BrowserCheck functionality within their organizations’ domain webpages to continuously monitor which browsers and plug-ins are installed on each machine.

Qualys BrowserCheck is available for PCs running Microsoft Windows XP through Windows 8 and for Macs running Apple Mac OS X 10.6.8 and later.
