Oracle announced on Sunday that it has agreed to acquire Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB) firm Palerra for an undisclosed sum.

Founded in 2013, Santa Clara, Calif.-based Palerra’s flagship “LORIC” platform helps customers secure applications, workloads and sensitive data stored across cloud services, while also helping them meet compliance requirements.

Palerra explains that its platform provides threat visibility and ensures compliance of cloud footprint by combining threat detection, predictive analytics, security configuration management, and automated incident response.

Oracle explained that the combination of Oracle’s Identity Cloud Service (IDaaS) and Palerra’s CASB solution will provide protection for users, applications and APIs, data, and infrastructure to secure customer adoption of cloud.

Oracle says that it is currently reviewing the current Palerra product roadmap and will provide guidance to customers in accordance with Oracle’s standard product communication policies.

“Any resulting features and timing of release of such features as determined by Oracle’s review of Palerra’s product roadmap are at the sole discretion of Oracle,” the database software giant said.

Privately held Palerra is backed by Norwest Venture Partners, Wing Venture Capital, and August Capital.

Until the transaction closes, each company will continue to operate independently, Oracle said.

The acquisition of Palerra by Oracle is just one of several moves by larger technology firms to get their hands on CASB tools.

Last year Microsoft bought Adallom and turned it into its Cloud App Security service launched in April 2016. In 2014 Imperva bought Skyfence; in 2015, Palo Alto Networks bought CirroSecure; and in November 2015 Blue Coat (recently acquired by Symantec) bought Elastica.

In June 2016 Cisco announced its plans to acquire CloudLock, a privately held CASB based in Waltham, Massachusetts. Cisco paid $293 million in cash and assumed equity awards, along with additional retention incentives in a deal that closed in August.
