Mountain View, CA based software solutions company, SpikeSource, this week announced the availability of spikeInsight, an on-demand tool designed to help build, fix, and maintain Windows and Linux applications.

SpikeInsight helps independent developers, ISVs, and IT departments improve application integrity, reduce testing and compliance costs, accelerate time to market, identify vulnerabilities, and access relevant patches, fixes and updates. It also helps in the migration of applications to new platforms and component upgrades.

“Today’s independent developers and ISVs face increasing complexity around the proliferation of vulnerability threats, the use of third party components, platform upgrades, and new deployment models such as cloud computing,” said O’Neill. “SpikeSource and its new spikeInsight service help developers ease this complexity with actionable, ongoing intelligence to reduce manual preparation and testing for quality assurance, compliance and certification, as well as fixes, upgrades and migrations.”

SpikeInsight allows users to perform a software risk assessment, quickly and easily discover what’s in their applications, and learn how to fix deficiencies and vulnerabilities during all phases of the application lifecycle.

The spikeInsight service provides:

• Application Fingerprint: Conducts a comprehensive scan of the binary code to map its dependencies and all platform, ISV and third party components, including APIs.

• Remediation Recommendations: Performs security testing on the application fingerprint and provides a comprehensive report identifying known vulnerabilities and version updates for components, with recommendations for remediation.

• Ongoing Monitoring: Provides ongoing alerts to newly discovered vulnerabilities through daily scans of the application fingerprint against the National Vulnerability Database, which includes over 42,000 vulnerabilities and averages 15 new threats daily. These alerts include links to new patches, fixes and upgrades.

Even seasoned developers and ISVs who use spikeInsight are surprised to discover hidden components and unknown dependencies within their applications. Risky, outdated and unlicensed components can cause applications to fail and release dates to slip. SpikeInsight’s ongoing vulnerability and update checks protect applications and their customers from problems throughout the application lifecycle.

The service is available for an annual subscription fee of $299 per application and the company is offering a free 90-day trial offer.
