Security startup Menlo Security emerged from stealth today armed with $25 million in funding from the closing of a Series B funding round.

The company has created an “Isolation Platform” that requires no software to be installed on endpoints and can be deployed at scale to protect against malware threats from Web traffic, Web-based documents and email. Because the content is isolated and rendered in the cloud, content doesn’t ever reach the desktop.

“Rather than try to distinguish legitimate content from malware, the Menlo Security Isolation Platform isolates and executes all Web content in the cloud and away from the endpoint,” Menlo Security explained. “The solution uses patent-pending, clientless rendering technology, Adaptive Clientless Rendering™ (ACR), to deliver a non-executable, malware-free copy of the user’s session to their native browser, creating a transparent user experience that is 100 percent safe every time.”

The Menlo Security Isolation Platform is available immediately as a public cloud-based service or as a virtual appliance for on-premise deployment. The Platform is compatible with any hardware (desktop, laptop, tablet, smartphone), any OS (Windows, MacOS, iOS, Android) and any Web browser.

The Series B funding round was led by new investor Sutter Hill Ventures and joined by existing investors General Catalyst, Osage University Partners and Engineering Capital. In November 2014 the company announced that it had raised $10.5 million in Series A funding. The new round of financing brings the total amount raised by the company to $35.5 million.
