Moscow based Kaspersky Lab, with U.S. a headquarters in Woburn, MA, this week announced that two senior level marketing executives have joined the company as it continues to grow globally.

Stephanie Edwards has been appointed Vice President, Consumer Marketing and Dr. John Malatesta has been appointed Vice President, Corporate Marketing. Adding to Kaspersky Lab’s North American and Western European marketing team, Edwards and Malatesta will be tasked with helping the company continue to thrive while meeting the increasing global security needs of enterprises, small businesses, and consumers. Both will report to Randy Drawas, Senior Vice President, Marketing Operations.

As the largest privately held Internet security software company, Gartner ranked Kaspersky Lab one of the fastest growing vendors in the global security software market, placing it among the top 10 vendors by revenue in 2010, as well as the third largest vendor of consumer IT security software worldwide.

Stephanie Edwards comes to Kaspersky from Symantec, where she was Vice President of Worldwide Sales & Marketing for the PC Tools business unit. Prior to leading the PC Tools business unit, Stephanie was Vice President of Marketing for Symantec’s consumer products in Asia Pacific and Japan, where she lead the development of marketing strategy and programs for the consumer marketplace across the region. Her responsibilities extended across all channels, including distribution, retail and online, targeting both end-user consumers and business partners.

Dr. John Malatesta, based in Milan, Italy, is responsible for overseeing and leading marketing across the B2B unit for North America and Western Europe. Prior to Kaspersky Lab, John spent four years at Sun Microsystems (now Oracle), where he served as Global Executive Director and led the Software Life Cycle Field Marketing unit for EMEA, APAC, Americas and Emerging Markets. Before Sun Microsystems, John worked at both IBM and Accenture, in senior international management positions.

Along with the security software market in general, Kasperskly is growing quickly. In less than 3 years the number of users protected by its technologies has increased from 200 million to 300 million. At the company’s international press tour that took place this past June, the company said it has around 50,000 activations per day including trial versions, and that users download between 35 – 65 TB of updates per day from Kaspersky servers.

Earlier this month CEO, co-founder and largest individual shareholder of Kaspersky Lab, Eugene Kaspersky, was appointed chairman of the board of directors. In addition, John Bernstein, managing director and head of Europe of General Atlantic, the second-largest shareholder of Kaspersky Lab was added to the board of directors.
