Kaspersky has teamed up with SecurityWeek to offer a virtual edition of the high-profile Security Analyst Summit (SAS). During this three-day virtual event, researchers and other industry professionals will discuss malware, exploits, threat hunting, and other interesting topics.
Kaspersky has rescheduled its in-person Security Analyst Summit for November 18-21, when the conference will take place in Barcelona, Spain, if the current coronavirus pandemic is contained.
In the meantime, the cybersecurity company has teamed up with SecurityWeek for a virtual event, named SAS@home, that brings SAS speakers and sessions into your home or office.
The virtual event will take place April 28-30, at 11 AM – 2 PM EDT, which is 8 AM – 11 AM PST, 4 PM – 7 PM London time, and 6 PM – 9 PM Moscow time. (Register here)
Eugene Kaspersky, CEO and founder of Kaspersky, kicks off the first day of the event with a short introduction. He is followed by Kaspersky researchers Alexey Firsh and Lev Pikman, who will share information on a long-running campaign dubbed PhantomLance, which involved dozens of pieces of spyware being uploaded to Google Play by an APT group.
Also on the first day, Nate Warfield, senior security program manager at the Microsoft Security Response Center, will demonstrate how OSINT tools can be used to detect vulnerable systems, compromised servers and bots running on an organization’s network, and how the same tools can be used to locate the network perimeter of their remote workforce.
Thomas Rid, professor at Johns Hopkins University, will share the story of Neptune, a sophisticated Cold War disinformation campaign that he detailed in a recently published book.
Kaspersky researchers Anton Ivanov and Boris Larin will talk about the zero-day exploits and malware used in a Korea-linked operation dubbed WizardOpium. Later in the day, Joe FitzPatrick of SecuringHardware.com will describe a method for making DMA attacks cheaper, easier and more versatile.
Ryan Naraine, director of security strategy at Intel, and Sounil Yu, CISO in residence at cybersecurity-focused venture capital firm YL Ventures, will discuss the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the cybersecurity industry.
On the second day of SAS@home, Kaspersky’s Costin Raiu will host a workshop on combining code similarities with Yara rules to hunt for threats, and researcher Denis Makrushin will summarize fundamentals for web application bug hunting. Also on the second day, David Jacoby of Kaspersky has a short presentation on the history of hackers.
On the third day of the virtual event, Alex Frappier of the CanCyber Foundation will present a “quarantine edition” of a training session focusing on body language myths, with tips for in-person and online meetings.
Before a surprise closing keynote, Igor Kuznetsov, principal researcher at Kaspersky, will share information on techniques for reverse engineering malware.
