Juniper Networks Updates Mobile Security Suite

Juniper Networks today announced new enhancements to its Junos Pulse Mobile Security Suite, bringing new mobile device management and security controls, as well as an API to allow service providers and OEMs to integrate with the platform.

The suite helps manage iPads, iPhones and iPod touch devices attempting to access enterprise networks and resources, and can now enforce and set passcode policies, and provision and remove Microsoft Exchange profiles. It can also remove corporate-synched email, contacts and calendar events, provision VPN and Wi-Fi settings, and inventory and restrict potentially risky mobile applications.

The suite also enables IT departments to locate and track lost or stolen Apple iOS-based devices and remotely lock the device and wipe its contents. While these features are attractive, similar features are already built into the iPhone and are available without the need for third party tools, assuming the phone is either controlled by IT administrators or setup with a Microsoft Exchange Profile. 

Additionally, a policy-based user interface for Google Android devices is now available and provides what Juniper claims is a near-zero touch antivirus client, only requiring user interaction when malware, spyware and non-compliant applications are detected.

The latest update also brings improved support for automated registration to include BlackBerry and Apple iOS devices, in addition to the previously supported Google Android devices. The automated registration feature simplifies the registration process for a user, since it does not require them to enter any codes or information to register and authorize the Junos Pulse client.

The new API and OEM Toolkit allows service providers and OEM partners to customize, integrate and co-brand their offerings, as well as add security features quickly and seamlessly, providing service providers with a range of value-added mobile security and management service offerings for consumer and enterprise customers.
