Google on Tuesday released a security update for Chrome 49 to resolve three vulnerabilities assessed with a High risk score.
The Internet giant announced that all three vulnerabilities were discovered by external researchers and that it paid $5,000 and $3,500 bounties for two of them. The company did not offer details on the bug bounty earner by the researcher who discovered the third security issue in the browser.
Chrome 49, the latest stable release of the Internet giant’s popular browser, was released last week for Windows, Mac, and Linux computers and brought along patches for 26 vulnerabilities, including 8 High risk bugs. At the time, Google revealed that it paid nearly $40,000 in bounties to external researchers who found some of the bugs, along with an additional $14,500 in rewards for issues in non-stable channels.
The new Chrome release, namely version 49.0.2623.87, includes only fixes three vulnerabilities, and is already available for all Windows, Mac, and Linux computers.
The update patches a type confusion in Blink flaw (CVE-2016-1643) which earned cloudfuzzer $5,000, a use-after-free in Blink issue (CVE-2016-1644) discovered by Atte Kettunen of OUSPG and awarded a $3,500 bounty, and an out-of-bounds write in PDFium vulnerability discovered by an anonymous researcher working with HP’s Zero Day Initiative.
In February, Google released Chrome 48.0.2564.116 for all supported desktop platforms to resolve a Critical security issue in the browser, after paying a $25,633.7 bounty to the anonymous researcher who discovered the flaw. In January, the company patched 37 security bugs in the application with the release of Chrome 48, while in December, Chrome 47 was released with 41 security patches inside.
Also on Tuesday, Google announced the availability of Chrome 50.0.2661.18 in the Dev channel, compatible with Windows, Mac, and Linux machines as well.
