Network security solutions provider Fortinet announced on Monday that it has introduced a new on-demand, pay-as-you-go offering for its FortiWeb-VM Web Application Firewalls (WAFs) for Amazon Web Services (AWS).

FortiWeb-VM for AWS, which is designed to help organizations secure their Web applications and meet compliance requirements, can be used based on an hourly or annual subscription. One of the main advantages of the new offering is that it provides AWS users predictable cost models and enables them to scale the solution depending on their needs, Fortinet said.

The security service is available via the AWS Marketplace and it complements existing Bring-Your-Own-License (BYOL) options. According to Fortinet, companies can save up to 40% on capital expenditures (CapEx) if they choose an annual subscription rather than an hourly subscription for a period of 12 months.

“Today’s FortiWeb-VM announcement further extends both Fortinet’s broad cloud computing portfolio and the company’s commitment to protecting customer Web applications on the AWS platform,” commented John Maddison, vice president of marketing at Fortinet.  “Customers have been asking for a more cost-flexible, cloud-based protection solution, and we’re pleased to report it’s available now.”

FortiWeb-VM is designed to protect Web application against a wide range of threats, including denial-of-service (DoS), cross-site scripting (XSS), SQL injection, file inclusion, buffer overflow, and cookie poisoning attacks. In addition to an IP reputation system that can identify botnet and other suspicious activities that take place on a network, the solution also provides customers with the capabilities necessary to determine application usage.

“We are excited to have FortiWeb-VM for AWS available via annual and hourly subscription on AWS Marketplace,” said Terry Hanold,  vice president of Cloud Commerce at AWS. “Customers can now easily and quickly purchase  FortiWeb-VM on AWS Marketplace to help provide additional layers of protection for their workloads running on AWS.”

Fortinet is not the only company whose products can now be purchased on an annual subscription basis on the AWS Marketplace. On Monday, Amazon announced that annual subscriptions have been made available for over 90 products from software vendors like Barracuda Networks, Alert Logic, Citrix, Sophos, Vormetric, Progress Software, Riverbed and Tenable.
