EnCase 7 Expands on Device Support, Encryption, and User Experience
Guidance Software announced some enhancements to its EnCase forensics tool last week at the RSA Conference, which expands on its existing platform and compliance-related investigation needs within the enterprise.
Packed with integrated smartphone support, a revamped user interface and powerful template-driven processing, EnCase Enterprise 7 earns its reputation once again. This new version was driven by customer demand and request, after a strong uptick in new customers last year.
“A wide array of new features and enhancements is included in this version of the product, a direct result of listening to our customers and incorporating their input into the software,” said Shawn McCreight, chairman and chief technology officer at Guidance Software.
Version 7 comes with integrated support for Apple, Blackberry, Android, Windows Mobile, on both smartphone and tablet devices, in addition to support for file and disk-based encryption. On that front EnCase 7 also introduces Passware support in order to identify files locked by passwords and to decrypt TrueCrypt files.
The EnCase Enterprise user interface has been redesigned to have the same simplicity as using a web browser, with ability to zoom-in on data of interest. Moreover, there is a new “find related items” capability, which allows examiners to triage a device for relevant items. The template-driven processing and report generation will allow examiners to automate repetitive tasks.
EnCase Enterprise version 7 is available now, at the show, the company said that as a promotion for new customers, costs are starting at $9,995 USD.
