DB Networks has launched a new Layer 7 Database Sensor to provide original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) with advanced database security capabilities.

Focused on database security solutions, DB Networks offers continuous monitoring technology to help customers detect database attacks. The company’s latest innovation builds on the December 2014 funding of $17 million led by Grotech Ventures.

Operating at the database tier, directly in front of database servers, the Layer 7 Database Sensor is able to analyze database traffic and identify attacks by monitoring application database accesses that deviate from normal behavior.

According to the Carlsbad, Calif.-based company, the new Layer 7 Database Sensor delivers real-time deep protocol analysis of database traffic to OEMs, which can integrate it into their products to offer deep visibility into data-tier cyber threats. The solution also provides machine learning and behavioral analysis technology that can help identify database attacks.

The new Layer 7 Database Sensor is suitable for solutions such as Incident Response (IR) services, Breach Detection Systems (BDS), Data Leak Prevention (DLP), and Security Incident Event Management (SIEM) products, the company claims.

Benefits for customers of OEMs include detailed insights into database interactions, extraction and in-depth analysis of layer 7 activity in the data tier, non-intrusive discovery of all databases, including undocumented ones, and immediate identification of database attacks through machine learning and behavioral analysis.

“Today databases threats are largely opaque to SOC staff. Our new Layer 7 Database Sensor’s ability to immediately identify data tier threats through deep protocol analysis and machine learning is being integrated into a variety of existing information security products. OEMs can now quickly enter the new era of machine learning and behavioral analysis-based information security without investing significant capital and time in the effort,” DB Networks’ Chairman and CEO Brett Helm said.

DB Networks’ new Layer 7 Database Sensors are available today for the company’s OEM partners.
