New 600 Series Appliances Bring Enterprise-grade Security Features to Small Business

Internet security firm Check Point Software Technologies, launched its new 600 Appliances this week, making security features typically available to larger organizations, available to small businesses, to help them defend against the latest cyber attacks, including malware, spam, malicious Websites, and more.

The 600 Appliances provide an affordable, all-in-one security solution with performance of 1.5 Gbps of firewall throughput and 37 SecurityPower units, the company said. (SecurityPower is Check Point’s benchmark metric to help customers select security appliances by their capacity to handle real-world network traffic, multiple advanced security functions and a typical security policy.)

According to Verizon’s 2013 Data Breach Investigations Report, of the 621 confirmed data breaches studied, close to half occurred at companies with fewer than 1,000 employees, including 193 incidents at entities with fewer than 100 workers, a clear indication that attackers are targeting small businesses that may lack more advanced IT security protections that larger businesses tend to have. The 600 Appliances come pre-loaded with capabilities, including firewall, VPN, intrusion prevention (IPS), anti-virus, anti-spam, application control, and URL filtering.

The 600 Appliances run the same next-generation firewall and threat prevention capabilities found on Check Point products used by large enterprises, the company said.

With pre-defined security policies included, Check Point says small businesses can get the appliances up and running in a matter of minutes and can be managed by non-IT professionals through a Web-based console.

“Cyber attacks on small businesses are on the rise. It’s no longer just the larger businesses that are being attacked, but companies with a hundred employees or less are also lucrative targets, and no business sector is immune,” said Dorit Dor, vice president of products at Check Point.

Features of the Check Point 600 Appliances include:

• Pricing starting at $399
