Internet security firm Avast has acquired Remotium, a provider of business-focused mobility solutions, for an undisclosed sum.
Remotium offers a Virtual Mobile Platform (VMP), that lets remote workers access enterprise applications and data from any mobile or desktop device in a bring-your-own-device (BYOD) environment.
Deployed as a Virtual Appliance, Remotium VMP operates on servers controlled by IT, and a client, which runs on mobile devices. All apps in a virtual mobile workspace are streamed from the Virtual Appliance, the company explains.
Avast, which caters mainly to a consumer customer base, says the acquisition will help it expand its mobile security offerings to the enterprise space.
Named “Most Innovative Company” at RSA Conference 2013, all 15 of San Mateo, Calif.-based Remotium employees have joined Avast, a company spokesperson told SecurityWeek.
