Unified security management solutions provider AlienVault has updated its Open Threat Exchange (OTX), the company’s open, crowdsourced threat intelligence sharing system.

The latest version of the platform includes a new free service that gives IT security teams better visibility into their networks. Called ThreatFinder, the feature enables organizations to identify compromised systems and malicious communications, and help minimize data exfiltration.

The latest release also comes with an updated interactive threat map that charts the countries, IP addresses and domains an organization’s systems communicate with.

Integration with AlienVault’s Unified Security Management (USM) platform and the Open Source Security Information Management (OSSIM) system helps the incident response process by providing threat intelligence on known malicious IPs. Security teams can perform log analysis by simply uploading raw logs to the threat intelligence sharing platform, the company said.

“In today’s evolving threat landscape, it has become more of a challenge for organizations, particularly those in the mid-market, to detect where the true threats lie without tapping into a broader and often already-stretched IT budget,” said Russ Spitler, vice president of product strategy at AlienVault. “By offering this capability as a free tool, AlienVault helps organizations gain greater visibility into their networks and makes existing IT resources more effective in rapidly detecting and responding to threats.”

Launched in February 2012, AlienVault OTX helps organizations improve their security posture by providing them with real-time, actionable information. The platform is currently powered by 8,000 contributors across 140 countries, with over 17,000 threat updates being made every day.
