Adobe has released new security bulletins for ColdFusion and Flash Player as part of its scheduled update.
Adobe addressed three critical vulnerabilities in its Flash update, which affects Windows, Mac OS X, and Android, as well as in Adobe AIR, according to the Adobe security bulletin released Tuesday. The buffer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2012-5676), integer overflow vulnerability (CVE-2012-5677) and memory corruption vulnerability (CVE-2012-5678) can all lead to code execution, according to Adobe. Adobe also released a hotfix for ColdFusion 10 (CVE-2012-5675).
The buffer overflow and memory corruption vulnerabilities were identified by members of the Google Security Team while the integer overflow vulnerability was reported through HP Tipping Point’s Zero Day Initiative, Adobe said. David Boyer, a UK-based ColdFusion developer, is credited with reporting the ColdFusion bug.
“Adobe is not aware of any exploits or attacks in the wild for any of the issues addressed in this update,” the company said.
Affected platforms include Adobe Flash Player 11.5.502.110 and earlier versions for Windows and Mac OS X, Adobe Flash Player 11.2.202.251 and earlier versions for Linux, Adobe Flash Player 11.1.115.27 and earlier versions for Android 4.x, and Adobe Flash Player 11.1.111.24 and earlier versions for Android 3.x and 2.x. Users running Adobe AIR 3.5.0.600 and earlier as well as AIR 3.5.0.600 SDK (which includes AIR for iOS) and earlier on both Windows and Mac OS X platforms should also update the software, according to the advisory.
The Flash update has an overall priority of 1, which means the vulnerabilities have a higher risk of being targeted. According to the severity ratings broken out by platform, Flash on Windows has a priority of 1 and should be updated as soon as possible (such as within 72 hours), while Mac OS X is ranked 2, meaning there is “elevated risk” but exploits are not imminent. Adobe recommends installing the update within 30 days. The Flash updates for Linux and Android as well as the AIR update for Windows and Mac OS X is rated 3 so administrators should “install the update at their discretion,” according to Adobe.
Google Chrome users will automatically be updated to the latest version of the Web browser with Adobe Flash Player 11.5.31. 5. Users on Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 8 will also be automatically updated to Adobe Flash Player 11.3.377.15.
The hotfix for ColdFusion 10 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh and Unix resolved a vulnerability which could be exploited to break out of the sandbox in a shared hosting environment, Adobe said.The vulnerability, with a priority of 2, could “result in a sandbox permissions violation,” according to the advisory.
Adobe released the bulletins a few hours before Microsoft released its final Patch Tuesday updates for 2012. Microsoft is expected to issue seven bulletins to patch 11 vulnerabilities in Microsoft Word, Windows, Office, Windows Server and Internet Explorer.
