Yahoo! Names Alex Stamos as New CISO

Yahoo! announced on Monday that Alex Stamos has taken the role of VP of Information Security and CISO at the company.

Yahoo! announced on Monday that Alex Stamos has taken the role of VP of Information Security and CISO at the company.

Stamos will report to Jay Rossiter, SVP of Platforms & Personalization Products, and will lead all aspects of information security at Yahoo, including a team tasked with securing the company’s online products.

“This is a broad role which includes implementing top-to-bottom security for our products and systems but also to lead the company and the industry in not just how security works today but how it needs to work in the future,” Rossiter wrote in a blog post Monday.

Stamos was a driving force behind TrustyCon, a rival event organized alongside the recent RSA Conference in protest of allegations that RSA accepted a $10 million payment from the NSA several years ago to use a weak number generating algorithm by default in its BSAFE toolkits.

Stamos comes to Yahoo from Artemis where he most recently served as CTO. He also co-founded iSEC Partners, a security testing and consulting firm.

He has been a keynote speaker at FS-ISAC and is frequently requested to present at conferences such as BlackHat, DEF CON, Microsoft Blue Hat and Infragard. He holds a BSEE from the University of California, Berkeley.
