BeyondTrust Acquires Blackbird Group

BeyondTrust, a Carlsbad, California-based provider identity management and security intelligence solutions, today announced that it has acquired Blackbird Group, a provider Windows system management software, for an undisclosed sum.

BeyondTrustAs a result of the acquisition, BeyondTrust says it will be able to further expand on its vision of helping organizations simplify IT security operations management, while arming them with information and context to help make security-related decisions.

“BeyondTrust will leverage the Blackbird product line to drive additional context and awareness around Active Directory and infrastructure components by offering real-time auditing capabilities for both privileged and normal users,” the company said in a statement.

“This combination with result in accelerated compliance reporting, as organizations will now be able to demonstrate controls of where individuals have access and what they are doing with that access,” the statement continued.

BeyondTrust said it will now be able to feed real-time auditing events into its risk analytics warehouse, providing detailed context across the identity infrastructure.

“In today’s dynamic IT infrastructure, organizations have to make fundamental shifts in how they manage both identity and security,” said Kevin Hickey, president and chief operating officer at BeyondTrust. “We’re excited to continue the development of Blackbird’s product line and provide a solid, seamless integrated management approach to Windows infrastructure.”

Blackbird Group solutions, coupled with BeyondTrust’s technology, will help organizations better protect identity investments with real-time auditing, recovery and protection.

This is one of a number of recent acquisitions for BeyondTrust. In May 2011, the company acquired Lumigent Technologies, a Massachusetts-based provider of database security and activity monitoring solutions. In May of this year,  BeyondTrust acquired vulnerability management solution provider, eEye Digital Security, an acquisition that allowed them to offer customers a threat management solution to address both internal and external vulnerabilities and threats.
