Acquisition of Wurldtech Will Help GE Advance Cyber Security Efforts for Critical Infrastructure and Operations Technology
General Electric (GE) announced on Friday that is has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Wurldtech Security Technologies, a privately held provider of cyber security solutions designed to protect critical infrastructure.
The move to acquire Vancouver, British Columbia-based Wurldtech is part of GE’s efforts to help protect critical infrastructure for key industries from cyber-based threats.
Wurldtech’s technology and services help critical infrastructure and industrial companies assess, protect and certify products used in environments such as oil refineries, power transmission grids or for individual assets like medical devices or smart meters.
The Wurldtech brand will remain and operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of GE.
“The world of OT security needs to be foundationally different from traditional IT detection systems. Securing connected machines has a unique set of complexities that are very different from protecting a datacenter,” said Bill Ruh, vice president, GE Software.

Financial terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
In March, Lockheed Martin, the largest provider of IT services, systems integration, and training to the U.S. Government, announced that it would acquire Industrial Defender, a provider of cyber security solutions for control systems in the oil and gas, utility and chemical industries.
