Fixmo Launches Mobile DLP Solution for SharePoint

Fixmo, a provider of mobile security and risk management solutions, today launched Fixmo SharePlace, a data leakage prevention (DLP) solution designed to provide secure and compliant remote access to Microsoft SharePoint from iOS and Android devices.

Fixmo, a provider of mobile security and risk management solutions, today launched Fixmo SharePlace, a data leakage prevention (DLP) solution designed to provide secure and compliant remote access to Microsoft SharePoint from iOS and Android devices.

SharePlace combines end-to-end FIPS 140-2 data encryption, on-device data containerization, multi-factor user authentication, mobile-specific access permissions and geo-location policy controls into mobile DLP solution, the company said.

Fixmo LogoSharePlace enables access control policies that can prevent specific documents from being downloaded from mobile devices, with the ability to put permissions put in place that can restrict access based on the sensitivity of the file, the user profile, or the current location of the device –without changing the user’s permissions for desktop-based access.

“Enterprises and government agencies continue to expand their use of Microsoft SharePoint for centralized document management and employee collaboration; but, unfortunately, because IT can’t delineate between content made available via SharePoint on desktops versus mobile devices, many organizations are blocking mobile SharePoint access altogether due to concerns over corporate data leakage and potential compliance breaches,” Fixmo explained.

Because of this, it’s important to have mobile-specific user permissions in place to restrict the content that can be accessed from mobile devices.

“Too many organizations have been left considering an ‘all or nothing’ proposition when it comes to accessing content stored in SharePoint from a mobile device due to the high risk of data leakage,” said Alan Pelz-Sharpe, Research Director Content Management and Collaboration, 451 Research.

In addition to offering security and DLP capabilities, Fixmo SharePlace offers a server-side Enterprise Gateway that accelerates mobile SharePoint access through bandwidth optimization as well as the ability to automate the synchronization of approved folders and documents down to the mobile device, the company said.

“IT organizations around the world are investing in both Microsoft SharePoint and their enterprise mobility deployments, but many are becoming increasingly frustrated that there is no way to align these two strategies without heightening the risk of sensitive data leakage,” said Rick Segal, Fixmo CEO. “We’re excited to introduce Fixmo SharePlace to solve this challenge. For the first time, SharePoint administrators can create custom IT policies to restrict access to specific content on certain mobile devices, or outside of a given geographic region, without impacting what a user can do on their desktop computer.”

Fixmo’s MRM technology was developed as part of a Co-operative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the NSA. In January 2013, Fixmo received a strategic investment from Samsung Ventures, the venture capital arm of the Samsung Group.
