Check Point to Acquire Lacoon Mobile Security

Network and data security firm Check Point Software Technologies (NADAQ:CHKP) said on Thursday that it would acquire Lacoon Mobile Security, a provider of enterprise security solutions for iOS and Android devices.

Network and data security firm Check Point Software Technologies (NADAQ:CHKP) said on Thursday that it would acquire Lacoon Mobile Security, a provider of enterprise security solutions for iOS and Android devices.

Lacoon’s Mobile Threat Management Platform offers cloud-based analytics and a lightweight device agent that enables enterprises to manage and mitigate mobile security risks of bring your own device (BYOD) and other mobility initiatives.

The acquisition is expected to close today, and will extend Check Point’s mobile security offerings by leveraging Lacoon’s Advanced Mobile Application Threat Emulation, behavioral risk analysis and real-time anomaly detection capabilities, Check Point said.

“Mobility has become the norm in business operations now more than ever before, because it enables employee productivity with anytime, anywhere access,” said Gil Shwed, CEO and Chairman of Check Point Software Technologies. “However, companies are not necessarily protecting the data on mobile devices properly. Traditional MDM strategies acknowledge the existence of mobile devices, but miss an important factor: protecting those devices, and the data on them, from threats.”

Founded in 2011, Lacoon has R&D operations in Tel Aviv, Israel and a sales team in San Francisco, Calif.

The Lacoon founders and team will be integrated into Check Point’s operations.

Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

This is the second acquisition by Check Point in recent weeks. In mid February, Check Point announced that it had acquired Hyperwise, a security startup focused on CPU-level threat prevention technology.
